Industry insiders said the price of paper products in China will rise due to rising raw material costs and strict environmental regulations during the epidemic.
Some manufacturers in China’s Hebei, Shanxi, East China Jiangxi and Zhejiang provinces issued announcements raising the price of their products by 200 yuan ($31) a tonne, CCTV reported.
A person familiar with the matter told the Global Times that many factors affect the price of paper products, including the price of pulp and chemicals used in papermaking, as well as environmental protection costs.
A salesperson from Jindong Paper, a coated paper manufacturer in Jiangsu Province, confirmed to the Global Times that many companies in the industry are indeed raising prices recently, and his company has raised the price of coated paper by 300 yuan per ton.
“This is mainly due to higher prices for paper raw materials,” he said, noting that higher prices boosted his company’s orders.
He also added that most of the raw materials his company uses to make paper are imported from overseas. “Due to the epidemic, the logistics cost of imported raw materials has increased, which has also led to an increase in the price of our products,” he said.
A salesperson of a company in Zhejiang specializing in the production of specialty paper, pulp and chemical additives for papermaking also told the Global Times that the company has raised prices for some specialty paper products.
So far, prices for different raw materials have risen between 10% and 50%. Among them, white cardboard increased the most. And now the dollar has dropped from 6.9 to 6.4, we lost a lot of foreign exchange. But even with difficult circumstances, we have kept product prices the same for the past three years in order to retain customers.
